Declare Interdependence was created by a small group of people working at the intersection of civic imagination, Indigenous democratic traditions, public participation, and future-facing governance.
This process is not intended to speak for everyone or define interdependence on behalf of others. Instead, it is an invitation for many people to add their own voices. Individual declarations will help shape a shared Universal Declaration of Interdependence, reflecting the people, places, living systems, and principles we choose to protect and cultivate together as the United States approaches its 250th anniversary.
The initiative is inspired in part by the ideas explored in American Indigenous Roots of Democracy and by a broader lineage of declaration as a social technology: a way for people to name what they hold most dear, make commitments to one another, and begin creating the future they want by declaring it.
